New York State
Catskill Mountain Region in New York State
About 2.5 hours north from where I live are the Catskills. This area of mountains has long been a summer vacation area for New Yorkers anxious to get away from the hot city for a weekend escape. The infamous town of Woodstock is located in this area and still carries much of the hippie generation themes in small shops and restaurants. I have friends who at one time owned a home in the region, so I was given the chance to photograph morning mist on the dead overgrowth in their yard. I have also stayed at the Mohonk Mountain House several times over the years, finding peace and relaxation in this two-hundred year-old-mansion turned into a hotel. Mohonk sits on the top of a mountain and has a natural glacier-formed lake. The hotel sits at the end of the lake and offers hiking, boating with no motors, and all the food you can eat. It took me back to the turn of the century with many historic artifacts and architectural details intact in the building. The surrounding region offers wooden covered bridges and explosions of color in the fall season.
