Caribbean
Anguilla
Dotted with small, brightly colored dwellings and boats, sandy beaches, and rocky hills, Anguilla invites warm weather-seeking individuals such as myself to its warm waters and sandy beaches. It is located in the Caribbean in a string of islands that stretches from Puerto Rico to Venezuela. My traveling partner and I stayed at Cap Julaca, a resort filled with Moroccan architecture that sat on the beach protected from the ocean and facing the Caribbean Sea. Our small private plane flew directly over several small, uninhabited islands and took an hour from the main hub island of Antigua. In a rental car we drove on the opposite side of the road and journeyed to the far end of the island. We took a water taxi to a tiny island off the coast that had one solitary restaurant and a few beach chairs. That restaurant specialized in crawfish, so we had our lunch there. As we ate, we were greeted by several green lizards, all wanting a handout. Our return to the hotel was an adventure. We drove the entire island without the fear of getting lost and had the opportunity to see the natives, many of whom worked at the resorts or boating commerce.
